Girl Chat {3.9.17}

Morning Friends!! Welcome to the second month of Girl Chat!

Today's link up topic is: Tell about a time you were really lucky

I had to think long and hard about this one for a minute. I could go the cheesy/sentimental route and say how lucky I am to have my husband and how extra lucky I am to have my sweet 3 kiddos, but if you want to hear about that, you can just go here.

Today I'm sharing a different story.

It was summer 2007 and we were headed to a Cubs game. It was myself, hubby (who was my then boyfriend still), my cousin and a girl we worked with. All 4 of us show up to the game to realize they were handing out these scratchy tickets with the prize being an autographed Ernie Banks base. Now I'm not going to pretend I'm some super die hard fan but I do know who Ernie Banks was. Could I care if I got his base? Not really, but I knew it would have been pretty cool since they were only giving out some ridiculous number like 20 when there was a packed stadium of 10,000 people.

Lo and behold me and the girl from work scratch our tickets and we won! The guys of course didn't and really couldn't believe their eyes at our winning tickets.  We immediately started freaking out, duh because now I'm a huge fan! LOL! We headed over to where you redeem your base and even the guys handing out the bases couldn't believe we BOTH won. I remember my cousin and Rick kept saying it was rigged and the guy at the gate knew these were the winning tickets and gave them to us girls on purpose #umok #sorelosers

The base was huge! It was an actual base signed by the one and only Ernie Banks! My cousin, who actually is a die hard Cubs fan, begged the girl we were with to buy it off her.  She was younger than us and still in college and really just wanted drinking money so she willingly sold it to him for I think $100.

So yeah, while we haven't done anything with the base, we do still have it in storage, still in the box it came in, with it's ticket of authenticity. Someday we plan to put in a clear shadow box and hang it on a wall in our basement.

It might not be the best story, but really it's what first came to my mind (well after my little family) when I thought about a time I was lucky.

I don't have any pics of the base or from that day (that was so long I'm pretty sure I was uploading pics to Myspace! and yeah, those are long gone) but here's one from a different Cubs game :)
