With Valentine's Day around the corner, my girls are asking for a fun themed play date with friends. They both have different interests but I rounded up some fun ideas that would work for either, and better yet, any kiddo!

Making Valentine's Day Special

If you know me, then you know I'm all about doing extra little things to make my kiddos feel special. I love it!

Here's a few ways I  make my kids feel special around Valentine's Day

Image result for valentines day

*Notes on their door

I saw Beth post this last year and I immediately jumped on board! This is something that doesn't take much time at all and I know my kids are eager to wake up and see the newest note

*Mailboxes

I bought these mailboxes from the dollar spot years ago and decorated some for myself, Rick, Brayden & Ella. Avery wasn't a for sure thought at the moment but I knew to grab a few extra to store away just in case. This year we whipped them out and Ella helped Avery decorate hers. These hang out on our shoe cabinet and it's so fun to see the kids get excited when they have mail. But what's even more cuter is the notes they leave for each other or for myself and Rick! They really are taking the lead with these mailboxes and it's just another fun way to show affection

*Heart shaped food

A couple of years ago we made homemade heart shaped pizza (Valentine's Day was on the weekend) but this year, I think I'm starting a new tradition where I pick up frozen heart shaped pizzas from our local deep dish pizza place and surprising them with that for dinner. It will be a normal school night of homework and baseball practice, so this will just be something fun to throw in (and I'll be happy not having to cook!)

I'm also debating on picking up a heart shaped chocolate cake from Portillos - yuuuum!

*Little Gifts on the day

I always put together a little something for my kids for actual Valentine's Day. This year I'm keeping it simple and giving them some candy, a new beanie boo for the girls, a squishy for Brayden and some craft stuff I grabbed at the dollar spot.

There you have it - I don't go crazy but it's fun to do a few little things to make my kiddos feel extra special šŸ’—

Do you do any of these for your kids?

The day of Love

Happy Valentine's Day! I know this is considered a Hallmark holiday to most but around here we love celebrating it and today's post is all about it!

Our morning is going to start off with heart shaped pancakes and heart shaped strawberries, I think the kids will love it.

I'll have their little gifts set out on the table and I can't wait to see their cute faces

Our house is a little decorated for the holiday, nothing major but of course I decorate my mantel, it's one of my favorite things to do!

The banner is from the dollar spot at Target

I made the LOVE sign a long time ago, you can actually see that post here.

On the front door I hung the LOVE wreath I also made a long time ago.  Although it's missing a red flower, not sure where that went over the years!

And thanks to Beth, I started posting all the reasons I love my kiddos on their door this year and they are loving it. I actually ordered these heart post its on Amazon and it's been super easy just to write something down and place it on their door. The heart hanger is from the dollar store.

Last year we made these adorable Valentine's Day brownies and since they were from the box, they were super easy. You can find the original post here

Easy Valentine's Day Sweet Treat:

Since me and the hubs have a dinner date tonight, the kids will be having dinner with Grandma. I'm sure there will be no shortages of special treats!

This pic of my loves is from last year, hoping I can get another one recreated this year!

I hope everyone has a great Valentine's Day! I sure am excited to see the cards the kids made me, that's honestly all I ever want!

I'm off to get ready to host 2 class parties today, woo hoo!

Girl Chat {2.9.17}

Good morning and happy first day of our Girl Chat link up! I'm so excited for this series and hope to see lots of new faces I can follow along with.

This months topic:

What are your Valentine's Day plans?

If you don't already know it, I'm a total cheese ball (I blame my kids) I love the cheesiness that comes with these kinds of holidays. While we don't go all out for Valentine's Day or anything we definitely celebrate it! Every year I always get the kids a few small things and set it out for them to find when they wake up and come downstairs.

This year I got each child a new tsum tsum (they are obsessed), some chocolate, and some fun band-aids. Brayden got this adorable lego set and Ella is getting this one. I plan on making them little valentine cards too. I still need to get Avery something else, maybe a new book, can't ever have too many of those!

I also get to be the volunteer at both Brayden & Ella's Valentine's Day parties which I am so excited about! It will be a filled day of fun with both my kiddos.

Usually Rick and I try to go out and celebrate the weekend before/after but due to lack of babysitters, we are going out to dinner on Valentine's Day night. Part of me feels bad about leaving the kids (I know, I'm weird like that) but the other part is super excited for a date night (it's been too long) We usually do not do gifts, just exchange cards and I usually get some of my favorite chocolates & flowers but this year I'm going surprise Rick with something, I'll share later just in case he's reading :)

In the past years we have made homemade heart pizzas with the kids and that is always a great time. We may have to do that over the weekend with them to make up for not having dinner with them on the actual holiday.

I also hope we can do some sort of fun craft or activity over the weekend - last year I set up Valentine's treasure rocks for the kids and they loved it! I might just have to bust that out for them again.

That's about it, we are pretty simple people :)

I can't wait to read about everyone else's plans! Just typing this all out is getting me so excited for this fun holiday!

Valentine's Day Apparel

If you didn't already know it, I'm a sucker for graphic tees and cute shirts. Make it holiday themed and I'm even more about it!

Today I'm sharing some of my favorite fashion finds for Valentine's Day

For the Ladies

For the kids

I wish that Yoda shirt came in boy sizes because I know Brayden would love it! I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on the black/white striped with heart elbow patches for myself since I'm volunteering for Brayden's school party.

So what about you? Do you dress in theme for the holidays?

Valentine's Day {DIY} picture frame

If you know me at all, you know I have a love for crafting, and I try with all my might to pass this down to my kiddos.  They are pretty into it so I think it's working so far :)

Each holiday I try and have them make something for their grandparents - just a little something, nothing crazy.

This year I had them make these adorable puzzle picture frames.  How cute are they!?! They were so cute I needed one for our house too!

Brayden painted the red pieces and Ella painted the pink ones and Brayden wrote the saying. Even though I wanted to, I did not help the kids one bit and I think they turned out perfect!

I wish I could take credit for something so creative, but I cannot.  If you want to see how these are made, check it out here

** a couple of things to note - I went to Hobby Lobby and Michaels and couldn't find this white unfinished puzzle and ended up finding them at Walmart.com and did site to store pick up.  I also used smaller popsicle sticks rather than the big ones, I liked how the smaller ones looked.

Happy Crafting!

Easy Valentine's Day Sweet Treat

Happy Hump Day! This week is flying by for me and I am really looking forward to our weekend!

But today I'm sharing with you some super easy and super yummy Valentine's brownies the kids and I whipped up this past weekend.

All you need are a few ingredients and a heart shaped cookie cutter to make these delicious beauties.

What you'll need:

  • box of brownie mix
  • eggs, water & oil per the brownie box
  • pink frosting & valentine sprinkles
  • heart shaped cookie cutter

Bake brownies as directed on box.  Let cool.

Take brownies as one piece out of baking pan and use your heart shaped cookie cutter to cut hearts out. (I used an 8" x 8" pan so my brownies are thicker, if you used a 9" x 13" pan you would definitely get more heart brownies)

After cutting out all your hearts, frost them and then hand them off to your little helpers (if you have some) to do the sprinkles.

And there you go folks, a super easy and sooooo yummy Valentine's treat!

Mmmmmmmm!!
