Mourning the loss

You know when it hits you? The thought of "I'm probably never going to have another baby" As most of you know, this is a thought I've been dealing with for a while now. We are pretty sure we are done, but every so often that thought pops into my head.

With that thought comes more thoughts. I start to realize all of the things I'm going to miss and that really, I'm mourning the loss of them

I'm mourning the loss of never having newborn snuggles again

I'm mourning the loss of never bringing another baby home and introducing him/her to its siblings

I'm mourning the loss of never using an infant bathtub again

I'm mourning the loss of never breastfeeding again

I'm mourning the loss of no more diapers

I'm mourning the loss of not using our highchair anymore (the same one all 3 kids have used)

I'm mourning the loss of the crib (which again, all 3 kids used and now has been converted to a full bed for Brayden)

I'm mourning the loss of never rocking another baby in our rocker

I'm mourning the loss of being pregnant

Even with all this mourning, I am so happy with where we all are. I really am. I love being a family of 5 so much. I think I am just that person who will always miss having a baby. Like I'll probably be 50 with baby fever!

But for now, I'm choosing to focus on the 5 of us and enjoying these days (which I know for a fact are the best days)

Weekly Recap - Flu Edition

Happy Monday friends!! Phew what a week we had. It all started off great with Monday the holiday. Brayden was home with us but Ella actually had preschool to make up for that snow day we got. I was unsure if I was going to send her but I did and I was glad to because there were only about 8 kids and they all got more one on one time and had lots of fun. After we picked her up, we headed to lunch and then to the library for a fun educational show on dinosaurs. We even got to see lots of dinosaur fossils which was pretty cool!!

Tuesday morning before school Brayden said his head hurt really bad but he seemed ok to me - as in he was eating all his breakfast, messing around with his sisters, and had no fever, so I sent him to school but told him to see the nurse if he still doesn't feel good.

Later in the day I was suppose to pick up Ella's friend and all us girls were heading to the library for a fun STEM class but right before I was suppose to leave, I got the call from the nurse. She said that Brayden had been down twice complaining about a headache but had no fever. I figured I would go get him because he has never gone to the nurse to come home before and I didn't want him to suffer at school. Once we went to pick him up, I could immediately tell he didn't feel good and he felt warm. The school nurse took his temp again and it was 99.5 and she said that had just started and that something was going on for sure. We went home where he immediately went in our bed to lay down. At this point I was starting to think this could be the flu so I made an appt for the next morning.

We got to the dr and they swabbed for flu and called me 15 minutes with the results - positive for influenza A. I was so sad for my boy because he was MISERABLE. The dr prescribed us Tamiflu and even after all that crazy stuff I read or heard, we decided to give it to him. I am happy to report he had no side effects with it and I truly believe that, with the fact he got his flu shot, led to him only being really sick for 2 days. By day 3 he was fever free and he was even able to go back to school Friday! However, in between his sickness, I caught it (go figure since I was sleeping with him every night to make sure he was OK) and I got on Tamiflu right away too. Again, no side effects and I believe it helped because I had 2 terrible days but by Saturday I could see the light. No fever and just felt a little run down. By yesterday I had all my pep back in my step and was soooo happy to being feel myself again!! The flu is no joke but I am so grateful we had easy cases.

So really our week kind of sucked, but I am so happy it wasn't the week before, or we would have missed all the Valentine's fun we had!

The weekend wasn't that eventful either - we were suppose to go to my nephews 1st birthday Friday night but I was still sick and we didn't want to possibly expose the flu virus through Rick & the girls so instead, Rick took all the kids to the school's Fun Fair - the kids had a blast and I was happy to get an hour to myself to relax.

Saturday Rick took the girls to dance and had Brayden go with so again, I could relax. Then he took them to the library to pick out books and then home. Later in the day my Mom came to pick up Ella for some one on one time and Rick & Brayden headed to his basketball team party at the local bowling alley. Since I was feeling so much better I took Avery to Old Navy to return something and then to Trader Joes to stock up on my favorite wine.

Sunday we hung around outside for a while, I did lots of cleaning and laundry and my Mom took Brayden for a few hours to hang out. I always want another day in the weekend but this weekend I REALLY wanted an extra day!

So there you have it, our not so fun-filled week fighting off the flu!

What's for Dinner?

Morning friends! Yesterday I got a call from the school nurse that Brayden wasn't feeling well and since he has never gone to the nurse before, I knew it was for real. We headed to pick him up and as soon as I saw him I could tell he was miserable! The rest of the night consisted of him laying in our bed, drinking fluids and battling a fever. We have a dr. appt today and I'm really hoping he doesn't test positive for the flu!

In the meantime, I wanted to share some yummy tried and true recipes we've been eating for dinner.  I always appreciate when people not only share delicious meals, but have actually eaten them too

Sheet Pan Chicken + Green Beans

This is a quick and easy recipe that even the kids loved, well minus the green beans, they just won't do green beans

Weekly Recap {2.19.18}

Happy Monday! Today is a holiday for schools but since Ella's preschool had a snow day the other week, they decided to make it up today - kind of strange if you ask me but their call, not mine.

We had such a fun week - it started with Avery's Valentine's Day party on Tuesday morning. I got to be the classroom helper so that is always fun! I helped all the little kids distribute their valentines then felt like the worst Mom ever because I forgot Avery's. And not just forgot them, but forgot to even do them. #totalmomfail  Thankfully 3yr olds are pretty forgiving!

After lunch I took the girls to the library for their Valentine's STEM class. They got to make potions again with vinegar + baking soda and they were in Heaven!

On the way home Miss A fell asleep and I brought her inside thinking she would get up and she snuggled right on the stairs LOL

Wednesday morning the kids woke up to their little presents. They were all very excited!

Then it was time for Ella's class and I also got to be the classroom volunteer. We sang, dance, played games and then I helped them distribute their Valentines. Thank goodness Ella took it upon herself to write out her Valentine's and they were all ready to go.

After Ella's party, there was time for a quick lunch then I dropped the girls by my father in law so I could head to Brayden's school for his party. We played lots of fun minute to win it games and made a couple crafts. It was a huge success!

I have no idea what is up with Brayden's smile lately, we are working on it ha ha

By the end of the day, I was exhausted! I was so glad we had heart shaped pizza for dinner followed by heart shaped portillos chocolate cake. The kids loved the dinner and I loved that they loved it!

Rick brought me home my favorites!!

Thursday Brayden had a half day so we all hung out in the afternoon. Then we had his conference at night. We were so proud to hear how well he is doing, he really is a great student.

Friday he was off because of conferences again so me, him & Avery ran some errands while Ella was at school. In the afternoon we played outside and built a snowman and had a snowball fight (that I lost) Rick and I were having date night and had planned to go to dinner but then durin  g the day he sprung the idea of going skiing on me. While I loved the idea I was also terrified because I had never been!  We are lucky to have a ski hill just 15 minutes from us (it's pretty small) but it was a great place for my first time I had so much fun and can't wait to go back!!

terrified on the lift! haha!

We ended our night with a drink then headed home and I think I was asleep 10 minutes later. Skiing is hard work!!

Saturday was a busy day of dance class, then a birthday party then it was the Daddy/Daughter dance!!

My girls looked SO beautiful and Rick looked SO handsome!! They were so excited while I was getting them ready and I couldn't help but register that memory and think what a sweet moment with my girls that was.

Picture time! - it was snowing big snowflakes before they left so I had to get a pic outside, it's my favorite!

Ella's bestie Ava and her Dad came over for pics beforehand too!

The girls danced the night away and had so much fun! While they were there, my friend and I took our boys to see Black Panther. It was surprisingly really good!!

Sunday was spent doing laundry, cleaning and playing outside in the snow. I really wish there was another day off on the weekends!

Hope everyone has a great start to their week!

Friday Favorites {2.16.18}

This week seriously flew by! I cannot believe it's Friday! But I'm ready for it, tonight the hubs and I are heading out for our Valentine's celebration sans kids and I'm super excited

You know what time it is, Friday Favorites!

{ONE} - Valentine's Day

We had such a fun Valentine's Day this year, and to confirm that the kids deemed it "the best Valentine's Day ever!!" I surprised them with little gifts in the morning, went to both Ella & Brayden's class parties (did Avery's on Tuesday) and then had a surprise dinner of heart shaped Lou Malnati's (the best!) and portillos chocolate cake - you can say my diet went out the window!

The hubs brought me home this and I couldn't have been happier, lots of my favorite things right there!

{TWO} - Girl Chat

Yesterday we had February's edition of Girl Chat. This is such a fun link up and I'm loving how many are participating! This month was all about how we stay organized! If you want to read how I attempt to, go here. Check out our other topics and be sure to link up with us each month!

{THREE} - Swimsuits

It's that time again to start looking at swimsuits! Cupshe has been popping up everywhere and they're suits are super adorable but I've heard mixed reviews. Has anyone ordered from there?

Cupshe Stay Young Stripe One-piece Swimsuit          Cupshe Sweet Smile Solid One-piece Swimsuit

{FOUR} - Favorite new top

I got this top in this week and I'm in love!! It's still 40% off too! Now I want it in every color!!

{FIVE} - Breakfast Cake

I stumbled across this delicious looking breakfast cake on Pinterest and think I'll give it a try. We actually have a ton of blueberries right now so it's perfect timing!

I swear buttermilk is magic. I've dwelled on this before. Buttermilk seems to turn everything to gold. Super-moist, super-delicious gold. If you're looking for a delicious, seasonal, berry cake recipe to add to your morning-treat repertoire, this amazing buttermilk blueberry breakfast cake is perfect! // alexandracooks.com
