Friday Faves

It's Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday! Ha, sorry, I just had to.

Linking up today with Darci and Karli with once again a bunch of randomness

{ONE}

So we took our outdoor fall family pics a couple of weeks ago.  The weather was absolutely terrible, 39 degrees and so so windy.  I asked the photographer if we should reschedule but she said it would be fine.  Well, it wasn't, it was terrible (not the photographers fault at all).  My poor kids were freezing and we were all bordering on hypothermia.  We were outside for 10 minutes when the hubby called it quits. When I got the pics I was less than thrilled and a little bummed because we didn't really get any decent pics.  Fast forward  couple weeks and my cousin came into town and took some more family pics for us and the weather was perfection!! Here's just a few :)

{TWO}

The hubs and I are going to a wedding Saturday night and it will be our first real night out since having Avery.  I'm the DD unfortunately, but I still plan to put back a couple and enjoy our night out. I ordered this new dress from Nordstrom and cannot wait to wear it! (too bad it's sold out now, boo!)

{THREE}

I got to run some errands today solo and of course popped in Hobby Lobby (my second home). Is it wrong that I got all warm and fuzzy inside when I walked down the Christmas isles?! I even bought a Christmas decoration, I just couldn't help myself!

{FOUR}

I need to make these for the Bears game this Sunday (gotta have some sort of excuse) and eat about 10 of them

Perfect for football games! Buckeye Brownies. madefrompinterest.net

and if you want another yummy treat to make, you should out my cookies I made out of cake mix. Oh so good!!!

{FIVE}

I'll end on a funny note (I think all Moms will appreciate this) - my friends Mom posted this on FB and I couldn't help but chuckle because it's so true :)

Happy Weekend!!

dark chocolate cake cookies

Have you ever made cookies out of cake mix?? Yes, I realize this is super lazy, but hey, I'm a mom of 3 now so convenient and easy need to be in pretty much anything I do.

I made up this cookie recipe all on my own (I know, shocker!) and they are so delicious, if I do say so myself.  If you're looking for an easy, fun Halloween cookie to make with your kiddos or bring to a party, these are it!

What you'll need:

  • Box of dark chocolate cake mix (or milk chocolate, devils food cake, et)
  • 1/2 cup canola oil (or vegetable oil)
  • 1/2 cup (or more) of Reeses Pieces
  • 2 eggs

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Mix all of the above ingredients together and place 1" balls on cookie sheet about an inch apart.  I also added more reeses pieces on top of the cookies before baking them. Bake for 11-12 minutes.

This recipe should make about 30 cookies

And viola! A super yummy new Halloween cookie! You're welcome :)

Friday Faves

It's Friday! Wooohooo! Time to join the party over at The Good Life and September Farm

(ONE)

In case you missed it, I am officially a SAHM!! I did a post on my transition from a working Mama to a Stay at home Mama and how I plan to survive. You should check it out if you haven't already :)

(TWO)

This weekend we are pumpkin patching and I'm so so excited.  Just like everyone else, I love Fall and all of the fun activities to go with it.  I know my kiddos are going to have a blast which will make my heart happy

(THREE)

Have you checked out ABC Family's 13 nights of Halloween line up? I am so so excited for my littles to watch some oldies.  Brayden is already super obsessed with Hocus Pocus (like Mommy like son!) so I can't wait to see which other ones he takes to.

(FOUR)

This boy - lately he has been skipping his naps but the other day I went upstairs to do something and came back down 5 minutes later and he was passed out, at 5pm.  I just love looking at my babies sleeping

(FIVE)

Daddy & his girls - it just melts my heart to see my hubby with his daughters. I love how much he loves them (and Brayden too of course) but there is just something about Daddy's and their little girls.

There you go, a bunch of randomness this Friday! Happy Weekend!

SAHM survival guide

So the news is finally out - I am officially a SAHM!! I decided not to return to work after having our sweet Avery. 3 kids is definitely a good reason to stay home! I have been longing to be home with my kids ever since my son was born 4 years ago, but it just wasn't in the cards at the time.  We have had amazing help with my Mom and MIL which I am forever grateful for, but still, I knew I wanted to be the one home with my kids, raising them, spending as much time with them as possible, as I know the time when they are small is the most precious.

I am also extremely grateful that my hubby was 100% on board with my decision to stay home.  I didn't make a million dollars a year or anything crazy like that, but still, taking away an entire income when we really didn't pay for daycare is a hard to pill to swallow.  I am just so happy he supports this decision, it makes it that much easier and exciting!

While I am SO dang excited to stay home, I know this will not come without any sacrifices. Goodbye Target runs, goodbye coffee runs, goodbye buying all the "extras" I bought before.  It's time to bunker down and really live on a "budget" - please all, wish me luck!

I decided to make a SAHM survival guide to possibly help others like myself who are transitioning from a working Mom to SAHM.

1. Wake up at least 1 hour before kids get up.
this is crucial.  When I was working, I absolutely loved getting to the office, going downstairs to the cafeteria and getting coffee with my work friends. It was the best start of my day.  Now that I will no longer have that luxury, I need to be up well before the kids if I want to enjoy a cup of coffee. Not only will this get me my caffiene fix needed to tackle the day, it will leave me happier knowing I got some "me" time in.

2. Use a cleaning schedule
Ok, so here's the deal.  When I was working full time I still managed to clean my house more than I do now that I am home.  How in the heck is that possible you ask? My honest answer = I really do not know. I don't, it completely baffles me as well! So to get myself on track, I need a cleaning schedule to keep me accountable otherwise, we may as well adopt of Pigpen because he would fit right in...  Here is a great cleaning schedule to follow - (bonus, it's a free printable!)

3. Meal Plan
While working, I really tried to meal plan but it didn't always work out.  Now that we are a 1 income family, it is imperative that I meal plan.  Long gone are the days where I show up at the grocery store and buy whatever I want. I typically go grocery shopping once a week, early Sat or Sun mornings - I'm talking like 6am early. It's the best time because you're one of the only crazy people there. The night before I'm going shopping, I will sit down and go through recipes while also looking at the weekly ads.  I put together our dinners for the week and first check our pantry/fridge for any items we might already have. For breakfasts and lunches, we pretty much rotate the same things so those are always staples on my list.

4. Make a daily to do list
While working, every day I had a checklist if you will, of things I had to get done.  I actually got a little giddy when completing a task and being able to mentally check something off.  Now that I'm at home, my days are starting to kind of mesh together since they are on the chaotic side.  There have been plenty of days that I have gotten 0 accomplished, and while that is ok, I would really like to start achieving some small goals.  I am starting to write a daily to do list at the end of each night for things I want to accomplish the next day.  Just small things like, call the insurance company, clean out the fridge, organize the pantry, etc.  You get the point. This will help keep me accountable and make me feel a little more on top of things.

5. Don't expect too much.
Now just hear me out. See, before I actually stayed home, I had dreamed about what it would be like. Weekly trips to the library, to the zoo, to play groups, you know, always having something "fun" planned for me and the kids.  Since being home, I find that most of our "fun" outings are actually just trips to the grocery store.  While I have gone out with the kids on a play group once and to the library once, it just doesn't happen regularly like I had thought it would. Coming from the corporate world where my everyday was pretty scheduled and routine, I thought it would be an easy transition to keep a routine at home.  I know I am very new to this SAHM life and things will only get easier which will allow us to do more "fun" stuff, but for now, it's just not happening.  I want other Moms who are transitioning to know that this is OK!! I am a person who likes to hype things up in my head and more times than not expect way too much out of things and I am learning to just go with the flow.

Above all of these tips, the most important thing is to just have fun and enjoy this experience! For my case, I chose to stay home. No one put a gun to my head and told me to quit my job.  I am choosing to embrace our everyday, good or bad and really just soak these days/years up with my kids who I love more than life itself.  I am beyond excited for my journey as a SAHM!

Halloween crafts for kiddos

Want to know a secret? Before having kids, I hated Halloween.  Everything about it; the haunted houses, the dressing up, the parties.  It just wasn't my thing and I honestly don't have a real reason for hating it other than I did - good enough, right?

But now that I have kids, I absolutely, 100% love Halloween. Everything about it! The dressing up, the trick or treating, the little kid parties, the pumpkin patch, and of course all of the adorable Halloween crafts there are out there!

I rounded up a good list of crafts to do with your kiddos this Halloween season, I am sure we will knock a few off this list ourselves.

Avery is 2 months!

Whoa, whoa, whoa, like really, how did we get to 2 months old already!? Time, pleeease slow down!

Baby girl, you are becoming more beautiful by the day! I could just stare at you forever.

You are all smiles lately!! This started happening around week 7 and you haven't stopped! You give us those big wide open mouth smiles and it makes us melt! Every time I see you smiling, whoever is near me I tell to come look at you - your Daddy thinks I'm crazy for sure :)

Happy Girl!
You are also doing a little bit of coo-ing and it is oh so adorable!!

You are kind of getting into a routine - usually you are awake after your morning bottle (I pump first thing so you always get a bottle in the morning, that is usually your only bottle of the day) for about an hour and a half, then you take a little nap, then eat, stay up for a while, then take a bigger nap, sometimes it's 2 hours which is heaven :) Then throughout the day you eat/sleep kind of randomly. You usually have your last feeding at 11pm and then you can make it all the way until 6:30am! Once you have made it until 7am.  We have had some recent nights here that you are waking up to eat much earlier than 6:30 and that's throwing me for a loop because I kind of got use to that long stretch. We can go back to that at any time.

Your tummy time is getting better and better! You can lift your head up pretty high and keep it there for almost a minute!! You are lasting longer and longer on your tummy which is good :)

You are eating 6, sometimes 7 times a day and pretty efficient! We nurse for about 10-15 minutes total.  I am enjoying nursing you while you are awake, I love watching you watch me, it is so sweet. I am not sure how much you weigh but if I had to guess it would be 9-10lbs? We go to the dr this week so I will update then.

You rolled over for the first time from tummy to back on 9/28/14! You've done it a couple more times but I know it was just a fluke but still important enough to document!

You are definitely your own person as in we can't decide who you look like!! Some days I swear you are a twin of Brayden, then others I don't really see it.  Though you are definitely more similar to Brayden than Ella at this age.

My sweet girl, this past month has been so enjoyable! The first month was rough, I'm not going to lie, but this month, was so nice. I feel like each day our bond grows stronger and now that you smile and coo at me, it just makes the days even better! Your Daddy, brother and sister love you so much and I love watching everyone interact with you! You fit in our family so perfectly! I love you so so much baby girl!
